Let me explain what a fiddlehead is. It is an edible green that grows only in the spring of the year. After it gets approx. 7 or 8 inches tall it starts to unfurll into a fern once it starts to do this it is no longer any good to eat. They are boiled until tender then you lay the homade butter and vinegar to them.
